Marin Headlands Event
We prepared for rain but got sun! It’s been a wet and rainy winter in Northern California, but as our YMCA + Nature Project event kicked off, we had nothing but sunny weather and a beautiful day at the beach to enjoy.
As part of our ongoing partnership with the YMCA, four local Bay Area branches brought bus-loads of inner city kids out to the Golden Gate National Recreation Area for an unforgettable day in nature with three of The Nature Project mentors and professional athletes including, TNP co-founder, Cooper Helfet, NFL star, Markus Peters, and Rachel Pohl, a celebrated skier and professional artist.
85 YMCA students ranching from 2nd to 8th grade joined us for a full day of fun and activities on the beach, just north of San Francisco, California. Each of our activities leans on a TNP curriculum developed and fine tuned over the past two years, one that builds upon self worth, team work, communication, commitment, perseverance and simply having fun outside! We had a diverse and energetic group of students from Chinatown, the Presidio, Mission District and Point Bonita, who come together for an incredible day in nature.
This event could not have been possible without the support of YMCA, REI and our generous community of private donors who have helped us bring The Nature Project to life.
